Scoring Memories: A Hockey-Themed Family Photoshoot in Etobicoke
As a family and event photographer in the Toronto area it’s always such a joy to capture the unique bonds and stories that people share through my lens. Recently, I had the pleasure of spending a beautiful golden hour with Katie and her wonderful son, Arden, along with their adorable furry family member, Terry Fox. This wasn’t just any photoshoot, it was a celebration of their deep connection to the thrilling world of hockey!
A Hockey-Inspired Theme in the Heart of Etobicoke
Katie’s 11-year-old son, Arden, is a dedicated young hockey player, and a significant part of their family life revolves around his training and competitions. So, what better theme for their family photoshoot than the sport they all love? We chose the perfect backdrop for this special occasion: the area surrounding Lambton Arena in Etobicoke, the very place where Arden hones his skills. There’s something truly special about photographing people in a location that holds meaning for them, and the energy around the arena felt just right.
Capturing Golden Hour Magic in Toronto
As a Toronto family photographer, I always aim to leverage the stunning natural light our city offers. We timed our session perfectly, aiming for that magical golden sunset hour on a gorgeous sunny spring day. Toronto in the springtime offers such beautiful, soft light, and it bathed everything in a warm, flattering glow. It truly made every shot feel special.
Proud Moments and Matching Sweaters
Katie and Arden embraced the theme wholeheartedly, sporting matching hockey sweaters that proudly declared their roles: “Hockey mom” for Katie and “I love hockey moms” for Arden. These small details added such a personal and heartwarming touch to the images. Throughout the entire session, Katie’s pride in her handsome and talented son was absolutely radiant. Her smile was infectious, and it was clear how much she cherishes Arden’s passion for hockey.
Arden, despite his young age, was a natural in front of the camera. He was enthusiastic and engaged, and you could see the genuine connection he shares with his mom. Terry Fox, their super cute dog, also joined in on the fun, adding his own brand of adorable energy to the mix. Capturing those candid moments of them interacting as a family – the laughter, the gentle touches, the shared glances – is what I truly love about family photography.
A Florida Surprise!
As the golden light began to fade, we wrapped up what I thought was the end of our session. But Katie had one more surprise in store for Arden – a trip to Florida! The look on Arden’s face when Katie revealed the news was priceless. Pure, unadulterated joy and surprise! Of course, my camera was ready, and I was so happy to capture this incredibly special moment and all the raw emotions that came with it. The hugs, the excited chatter – it was a beautiful culmination to a wonderful photoshoot.
Capturing Lasting Memories
This session with Katie, Arden, and Terry Fox was a fantastic reminder of how photography can freeze those fleeting moments of happiness and connection. It was an honor to capture their love for each other and their shared passion for hockey against the stunning backdrop of a Toronto spring sunset.
